We are thrilled to welcome you to campus, whether you are returning after some time off or joining us for the first time. As the semester gets underway, it is a joy to see increased visits at our three campus library buildings -- the Howe Library, the Dana Medical Library, and Silver Special Collections (located in the historic Billings Library).
Our strong collections include print and electronic books, government documents, magazines and journals, research databases, media materials, manuscripts, and other archival materials, all of which we collect to support UVM’s curricular and research needs. The Libraries’ online resources, including the Center for Digital Initiatives, Scholar Works (an institutional repository of faculty and student research), and our discovery tool, CATQuest, are available 24/7. If the Libraries do not own a book or journal article that you need for your coursework or research, we will make every effort to obtain them for you through our Interlibrary Loan and/or Recommend a Purchase services.
Librarians remain eager to assist you with your research. Please contact us about 1:1 research consultations, point-of-need help through our reference services, and visits with classes to provide research instruction. To connect, please visit:

Howe Library’s Ask-a-Librarian service
Our Libraries’ subject specialists serve as important contacts between the Libraries and campus departments and programs. They play a key part in the teaching, learning, and research of the university. Specialists provide direct instruction in research and critical thinking to assist students in the successful completion of their assignments and the development of lifelong learning. Through one-on-one consultations, librarians provide in-depth research assistance to both students and faculty. They also work with colleagues to select print and electronic materials to support teaching and research. To connect with subject specialists, please see:
After many changes in response to the pandemic, we’re pleased to announce the return of several popular services, including group study rooms, print course reserves, in-person reference assistance, and much more.
Please come visit us, get to know our staff and faculty, and let us know how we can be of assistance!
Sincerely,
Bryn Geffert
Dean of Libraries
