Systematic Review or Scoping Review: How Do I Decide Which One to Choose?

Selecting a research methodology for your review can be a challenge. Researchers frequently have a hard time deciding between a systematic review and scoping review. Which one is appropriate for my type of research question? What type of analysis does each one use? This video from JBI, “Should I undertake a scoping review or a systematic review?” does a great job of outlining the key differences between systematic and scoping reviews and answering all your questions – all under 13 minutes.

If you still have questions about which methodology to use, or if you’ve decided and would like help getting started, please check out our Systematic Review guide or Ask Dana for more assistance. A librarian would be happy to help.
