What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides access to materials that are not available in the UVM Libraries.

What is the difference between ILL and Document Delivery?

Interlibrary Loan is the process of borrowing materials that this library does not own. Document Delivery is a service of supplying journal articles and book chapters from our own collection.

Who can use ILL?

ILL services are provided for faculty, staff and students of the University of Vermont and the University of Vermont Medical Center.

How do I request an ILL?

You can request an ILL by filling out the online form, sending an e-mail to [email protected], phoning (802) 656-2242, or sending a FAX to (802) 656-4238.

How much does ILL cost?

Depending on your affiliation, the cost ranges from $0 to $25 for routine requests. Expedited services cost more. Specific questions about cost may be referred to the ILL office at (802) 656-2242 or [email protected]

How long does ILL take?

Average turnaround time for journal article requests is 2 business days.

Can you Rush a request for me?

RUSH service may be available with a quicker than average turnaround time. Contact the ILL office for assistance.

Can journal articles be delivered electronically?

Yes, we can send your documents by email, through U.S. Mail or campus mail, or by fax. For items which need to be picked up in the library, we can notify you by email or phone.

How long can I keep a borrowed book?

The lending library determines the loan period based on their circulation policies. The typical loan period is two weeks.

What types of material can I request from ILL?

Journal articles, books, and audiovisual materials.
